Family Portraits | The Jardine Family

I absolutely love outdoor family portraits.  There I said it.  I love them, to pieces.  I had a fantastic fall in 2015 and before I blogged anything I wanted to let the holidays pass and Christmas cards to arrive to families before showing them all publicly.

I absolutely adored working with the Jardine family.  They were new to me this year and we had a blast.  Believe it or not, this was a quick 20 minute mini session, that included a 6 month old and a toddler.  I’ll be honest, knowing the ages of the kiddos I was prepared for a challenge.  But they were so great to work with. keller family portraits

I consider myself well versed in young children, with 2 young ones at home myself.  Of course every child is different, but I have a few tricks up my sleeve to keep them smiling; or at the very least, looking in the direction of the camera.  Ya’ll I am not afraid to get silly.  I’m talking jumping around, making flatulent noises, telling jokes about poop, whatever works.  Its taken some practice, but I think I found my groove.

Looking at these images now, its almost impossible to believe this was November.  I think of November as winter, you know like 60 degrees.  Look how green that grass is!  There isn’t a single blade of green grass to be found now that its really gotten cold, you know in the 50s.  Just a few more weeks and the greenness will return, I can’t wait!  Anyway thats a bit of a tangent.

When photographing families, my main goal is authenticity.  Of course every mom wants the photo where everyone is looking at the camera and smiling, and I do everything in my power to make that happen.  But what I really love, is when a true organic moment happens.  Something that occurs when the cameras aren’t around.  Those are my favorite images of all time, of my own family, and in my art.  I also make a point to capture a variety of poses and combinations; just the boys, mother and daughter, just the kids, and ALWAYS mom and dad. family portraits
